About the role
SCRR Electrical Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled and motivated Electrical Engineering Technician to join its growing team in Chevallum, QLD.
The role supports the design, assembly, installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical switchboards and associated control systems. The successful candidate will work closely with Electrical Engineers and senior technical staff to ensure electrical systems are constructed, tested, and commissioned in accordance with project specifications, technical drawings, and applicable Australian standards.
This position contributes to the delivery of high-quality switchboard and electrical system solutions for residential, commercial, and industrial applications.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Design and Documentation
- Assist in preparing and reviewing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and installation drawings for switchboards and control systems.
- Support Electrical Engineers with the configuration and layout of switchboards, motor control assemblies, protection relays, metering devices, and associated cabling systems.
- Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications to ensure accurate construction and installation of electrical assemblies.
Installation and Assembly
- Assemble and wire electrical switchboards and control panels in accordance with technical documentation and electrical standards.
- Install electrical components including circuit breakers, relays, terminal blocks, metering equipment, and protection devices within switchboard assemblies.
- Perform workshop-based electrical fabrication tasks including mounting equipment, cable routing, and component integration.
Testing, Calibration, and Commissioning
- Conduct non-live/de-energised electrical testing and functional verification of switchboards, protection systems, and control circuits prior to commissioning.
- Assist with calibration of instrumentation, metering equipment, and protection devices to ensure operational accuracy.
- Record and analyse test data, preparing technical reports, charts, and documentation for project records.
Troubleshooting and Technical Support
- Investigate electrical faults and assist with diagnosing issues within switchboards and electrical control systems.
- Perform modifications, repairs, or adjustments to electrical equipment to ensure compliance with project requirements and safety standards.
- Provide technical assistance during system commissioning and operational testing.
Compliance and Quality Assurance
- Inspect assembled switchboards and electrical installations to verify compliance with engineering specifications, relevant Australian Standards, and electrical safety regulations.
- Support quality control procedures by documenting inspection results and identifying any non-conformance issues.
- Maintain accurate records of materials used, testing results, and technical documentation.
Materials and Project Support
- Assist in estimating required materials, components, and quantities for switchboard projects.
- Support project teams by monitoring material usage and ensuring components meet technical specifications.
Research and Continuous Improvement
- Contribute to internal technical improvement initiatives relating to switchboard design, testing processes, and installation practices.
- Participate in technical training and development to maintain knowledge of industry standards, electrical technologies, and safety requirements.
Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience in electrical switchboard assembly, electrical installations, or industrial electrical systems.
- Ability to interpret electrical drawings, circuit diagrams, and engineering specifications.
- Knowledge of electrical protection systems, metering equipment, and control circuits.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for electrical fault identification and resolution.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within an engineering and technical team environment.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrotechnology, or a closely related field; or
- Equivalent technical training and industry experience in electrical engineering support roles.
Work Environment
- Combination of workshop-based switchboard assembly and site-based electrical installation activities.
- Work performed in accordance with Australian electrical safety standards, workplace health and safety requirements, and company procedures.
